Gabriella Cilmi - Bril Album

July 25th, 2008 | Category: Kerron's Blog

“Sweet about me, nothing sweet about me” is the chorus from Gabriella Cilmi’s debut single. But I must say, there is something definitely sweet about this girl. From her voice to her lyrics, to her creativity, she never ceases to amaze me as I select repeat on my iPod, again.

The maturity in this 16 year old’s voice makes it hard to believe that she is indeed still a teenager and saying that she sings SO well is an understatement (honestly).  She sings about a wide range of topics - as you would expect - with some obvious American influences. You can hear a slight western and rock melody on tracks like Awkward Game and Terrifying. Skip to Safer which happens to be one of my favourite on the album it has more of a Blues sound which brings to emphasis lyrics like, “And Just When I Think I’m On Top … I Stumble And I Hit The Ground”. In addition, this track really brings to attention her vocal talents.

I know this is not an ‘in-depth’ critique on her album Lessons To Be Learned, but I just wanted to share my opinion on a real Diamond with you all. Do not be surprised to read in the papers raving reviews about this album from professional critics.

Rise Festival

July 14th, 2008 | Category: Kerron's Blog

Went to Rise Festival yesterday and had a blast! Great music, the sun was shining and the overall atmosphere created by the people was just fantastic. I went ‘early’ so I was surprised when I didn’t see much people there. Went away for a while and when I came back the park was overflowing with people – I could hardly find my way through the crowd.

What attracted me most to the festival was the fact that CSS was going to perform. For those unfamiliar, CSS is short for Cansei de Ser Sexy (‘tired of being sexy’) and they are an electro/rock band from Brazil. I fell in love with their music from the first time I heard it. Their performance on stage was amazing as always. I love the fact that they are so unique. For those who want to know about CSS I have added some songs.

I am having some problems uploading the pictures. I will try and fix this later.

… As promised, here are the pictures.

John Mayer at Brixton Academy

July 08th, 2008 | Category: Kerron's Blog

Oh it has been a while since I’ve posted!
I went to see John Mayer at Brixton Academy recently and I thought I would write a post; I simply adore his music. I only found out about John Mayer and his talent a few months ago when listening to Alicia Keys. He featured on a song on her new album (As I Am) called Lesson Learned. I love that song. The chorus was captivating and that’s how I got noticed of him, and I have been a big fan ever since.

I found out that he was going to be playing at the Brixton Academy only two days before the concert and by that time all tickets had been sold. But that wasn’t going to stop me! To my joy people where selling tickets near the gates, and as the saying goes, ‘the rest was history’.

I came out of the concert thinking ‘that was the best money I have ever spent’. It was simply amazing; from start to finish! He started the concert with Belief, a song from his latest album Continuum, and everyone just went crazy from then on. He played songs from all his albums and did not disappoint in giving us a jaw dropping show of skills on his guitar.  Every song ended on a high with the next one laying in wait ready to take you even higher! The only thing the crowd could do was to scream the inevitable “I LOVE YOU JOHN!”.

He obviously takes his career seriously for he performed immaculately throughout the entire concert. Unlike some of the other artists I like.  I wont mention Amy name ;).

I was just happy to see him play live and indulge in his music yet again.
