RE: Site Problem 2 (creating a slideshow)

November 23rd, 2007 | Category: Help

Yes! I finally got my slideshow working (look in gallery). It took me some time but it was well worth it. I asked for some help but I didn’t get any comment. Maybe no one saw it or they couldn’t be bothered to reply. Nonetheless, it’s completed and I’m willing to help those having any issues.

Site Problem 2 (creating a slideshow)

November 12th, 2007 | Category: Help

My problem now is creating a gallery. I have seen some beautiful photo-galleries and have tried to create some myself. Unfortunately I have failed on all attempts! I know that there are some geniuses on this course, maybe one of you guys could help me out.

I want to upload some pictures and display them in a thumbnail like view. I don’t want to upload all these pictures by repeatedly browsing and clicking on the ‘upload’ button. Is there a simpler way of doing this? If so can you help me please?

Much appreciated.

Site Problem 1 (broken layout)

November 11th, 2007 | Category: Help

I am having some issues with my site. The first one, and the most annoying so far, was adding videos to my Blog. I tried adding a link from YouTube to my site, but I was left with a broken site and really bad headache from trying to fix it. Whenever I added the embedded code (from YouTube) within the code section of my page, post it, and then reopen it the layout of my site went weird! Fortunately I was able to solve this problem with the help of Jonathan (my module leader).

There is one reason in particular as to why i think this happened and that may be the version of Wordpress I installed. I have not directly tested this – as I would have to reinstall a newer version - but I’ve managed to work around the problem. What I had failed to notice was that the embedded code added to the post ‘broke’ each time I re-opened it or would add something to that post. Fortunately, with the help of Jonathan who pointed this out to me, we were able to come up with a simple solution – “don’t re-open or edit the page once you’ve post it”. Make sure to do all the editing or writing you need before publishing the post.

A simple way of testing this is to copy a random embedded code from Youtube, create a new post, paste the code and click publish. Now re-open that same post and change the view from Visual to Code a few times. Notice that the code has now changed?

Tip: You could try and install Wordpress 2.3.1 (the newest version at the time of writing) and see if that one works better.

Hope it all made sense.

(Thanks J!)
